The British Lion (“we”, “us” or “our”) respects your privacy. This notice explains how we handle information when you visit our website, and how you can control cookies and other tracking technologies. We aim to meet the standards set by the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
1. Who we are (data controller)
The data controller for this website is THE BRITISH LION FOLKESTONE LIMITED, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 08890398, whose registered office is 8–10 The Bayle, Folkestone, Kent CT20 1SQ.
For any privacy question or data-protection request, contact us at info@shotbyp90.co.uk or on +44 (0)1303 251 478. We aim to respond within one calendar month, as UK GDPR requires.
2. What information we collect
When you browse this site we do not ask you to create an account or provide personal details. The only information we receive is:
- Technical data your browser sends automatically — such as your IP address, browser type, device type and the pages you visit. This is standard server-log data used to keep the site secure and available.
- Cookies and local storage set by us or by third parties you choose to allow (for example, when you consent to Google Maps).
We do not collect or store payment details, names, email addresses or any other contact information unless you choose to contact us directly by phone or email.
3. How we use cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device. We use them to:
- Remember your cookie preferences so the banner does not keep appearing.
- Keep the site secure and measure basic performance (these are strictly necessary).
- Load embedded content such as Google Maps, only if you give consent.
We do not use cookies for targeted advertising, behavioural profiling or selling data to third parties.
4. Cookie categories
| Category | Purpose | Your choice |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | Site security, preference storage and basic functionality. | Always on |
| Embedded content | Google Maps embeds on the Visit page. Google may set its own cookies. | Off by default |
5. Third-party services
The only third-party service we load after consent is Google Maps. If you choose to allow it, Google may collect data according to its own privacy policy and cookie practices. You can manage this choice at any time using the cookie settings button below.
We do not embed social-media trackers, analytics scripts, advertising pixels or marketing widgets.
6. Our lawful basis for processing
Under Article 6 of the UK GDPR we rely on the following lawful bases:
- Consent — for any non-essential cookies and embedded content, such as the Google Maps embed. You give it freely and can withdraw it at any time.
- Legitimate interests — for strictly necessary technical data in server logs, used to keep the site secure, available and working correctly.
- Legitimate interests / contract — if you phone or email us about a booking or enquiry, we use your details only to answer you and, where relevant, to hold your table.
7. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- Ask what personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction or deletion of that data.
- Object to processing or ask us to restrict it.
- Withdraw consent at any time — for example, by turning off the Google Maps toggle.
- Complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you are unhappy with how we handle your data.
8. Data retention
Server logs are kept only for a short period needed for security and troubleshooting (typically no more than 30 days). Your cookie preference is stored in your browser’s localStorage for up to 12 months, or until you clear it or change your choice. Booking enquiries made by phone or email are kept only as long as needed to deal with them and for our ordinary business records.
9. International transfers
Our website hosting and content delivery use providers that may process technical data on servers outside the UK. Where personal data is transferred internationally, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
If you consent to the Google Maps embed, Google may transfer data outside the UK under its own safeguards, as described in the Google Privacy Policy.
10. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, please tell us first at info@shotbyp90.co.uk and we will try to put it right.
You also have the right to complain to the UK supervisory authority, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) — ico.org.uk, helpline 0303 123 1113, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF.
